SOAR Award Categories

Celebrating the accomplishments of student leaders, advisors, clubs and organizations, the SOAR Awards are presented annually during the spring semester.

Individual Awards

First Year Student Leader of the Year

This award is presented to a first year student who exemplifies leadership through campus or community involvement. The recipient of this award has helped our community envision the future, identify paths to success, and carry out a vision. This student has exhibited integrity, collaboration, and intellectual, emotional and social growth.

Sophomore Student Leader of the Year

This award is presented to a Sophomore student who exemplifies leadership through campus or community involvement. The recipient of this award has helped our community envision the future, identify paths to success, and carry out a vision. This student has exhibited integrity, collaboration, and intellectual, emotional and social growth.

Junior Student Leader of the Year

This award is presented to a Junior student who exemplifies leadership through campus or community involvement. The recipient of this award has helped our community envision the future, identify paths to success, and carry out a vision. This student has exhibited integrity, collaboration, and intellectual, emotional and social growth.

Senior Student Leader of the Year

This award is presented to a Senior student who exemplifies leadership through campus or community involvement. The recipient of this award has helped our community envision the future, identify paths to success, and carry out a vision. This student has exhibited integrity, collaboration, and intellectual, emotional and social growth.

Outstanding Student Leader of the Year

This award is presented to a student who exemplifies leadership through campus or community involvement. The recipient of this award has helped our community envision the future, identify paths to success, and carry out a vision. This student has exhibited integrity, collaboration, and intellectual, emotional and social growth.

Outstanding Emerging Leader

This award recognizes a student who demonstrates outstanding initiative and contribution within the campus community. This student is dependable, dedicated to an organization, group or team and has shown significant positive growth in their leadership skills and consistent implementation of their leadership talents.

Living Our Values Award

This award is presented to the student who exemplifies personal character, a genuine care and concern for fellow students, as well as a selfless commitment to the betterment of others in the community. This student is a true Demon Deacon, embraces our motto “Pro Humanitate” and is a positive role model to others.

The Bridge Builder Award

This award recognizes a student who has worked to establish or support connections between individuals and/ or groups to raise awareness, share knowledge, and provide solutions to community issues while creating a sense of belonging in the Wake Forest Community. The areas of connection may include campaigns, collaborative events, exploration of diverse cultures, and educational programs on issues that are challenging the campus community.

Unsung Hero Award

This award recognizes a student who makes substantive yet often unrecognized contributions to their organization or the Wake Forest community. This individual will have demonstrated consistent service and leadership within their organization from behind the scenes. This recipient has a positive attitude, a willingness to help in whatever capacity necessary and a commitment to excellence.

Advisor of the Year Award

This award is presented to a staff or faculty member who has demonstrated exceptional organizational advisement and/or personal mentoring. This individual has gone above and beyond the basic expectations of an advisor and has challenged and motivated the organization to excel and succeed.

Advisor Achievement Award

This award recognizes an experienced advisor who has had a positive impact on a student organization and the university community. This individual demonstrates strong advising skills, is readily available to students and other advisors, and takes great strides to help the organization’s leaders. This recipient demonstrates dedication to the overall success of the student organization through the giving of their time, guidance and direction.

Campus Partners Award

This award is presented to a person or department that has gone above and beyond to assist an organization or organizations with planning and execution of successful campus wide programs. This recipient assists in the development of student organizations and student leaders.

Organizational Awards

Student Organization of the Year

This award recognizes a chartered student organization that has made an exceptional contribution to the quality of campus life at Wake Forest University. This organization collaborated with other student groups and campus departments in an effort to better serve the student body. They worked effectively and efficiently as a team to achieve their mission through programs, service, and organizational development.

New Student Organization of the Year

This award recognizes a newly chartered organization that has exhibited teamwork, leadership, and organization operations. This student organization has accomplished their goals, participated in and planned campus events, adheres to campus policies and procedures, and promotes campus unity and community.

Event of the Year

This award is presented to a student organization that hosted an outstanding event for the Wake Forest University community during the current academic year. This organization successfully navigated the event planning process, exhibited critical thinking and problem-solving skills, welcomed a diverse population of participants, and enriched the co-curricular experience of Wake Forest students.

Outstanding Collaboration of the Year

This award acknowledges two or more recognized student organizations for their effort to collaboratively organize and implement a campus program, project or event. This award seeks to encourage student organizations to demonstrate a collaborative spirit by working with other organizations to achieve a common goal. The nominees should explain how working collaboratively contributed to the success and impact of the program.
