Information for Students

If you’re staying in Winston-Salem during Thanksgiving Break, this page is for you! We’ve included departments offering free food options, shuttles for dining and shopping, hours that ZSR Library and Reynolds Gym will be open, important information from RL&H, SHS, and UCC, and links to campus and community activities.

Free Lunches

Please note each of these lunches are offered while supplies last:

    Thursday, November 23:
    12:00 PM
    Campus Recreation will offer free Chinese food from East China Restaurant in Reynolds Gymnasium.
    Friday, November 24:
    12:00 PM
    Deacon Dining will offer free Subway Sandwiches in Reynolds Gymnasium.
    Saturday, November 25:
    12:00-1:30 PM
    ZSR Library will offer free Chipotle Burritos in the ZSR Atrium.

For Thanksgiving, our communities will remain open; however, as you plan ahead please note that all of our communities close at 9:00 AM on December 17 for the Winter Break.

Don’t miss the blockbuster movies opening on Thanksgiving weekend. Discount Movie Tickets to the Grand Movie Theater are available at Reynolds Gymnasium.

Dining and Shopping Shuttles

Shuttles will depart from front of the Benson Center and pick up from the same location as drop off. If you miss the last shuttle bus, you will be responsible for making your own way back to campus via taxi/Uber.

Deacon Dining Hours

While Campus Dining locations are not open Thursday, November 23 – Saturday, November 25, SUBWAY & P.O.D. at Davis Hall will re-open at 12:00 PM on Sunday, November 26 and most other locations will be open beginning in the late afternoon/evening.

Student Health Service

The Student Health Service will close on Tuesday, November 21 at 5 pm and reopen Monday November 27 at 8:30 am. To assist students with urgent concerns, a registered nurse will be available for telephone consultations while the clinic is closed. For medical questions about a current illness or injury during the Thanksgiving break, call campus dispatch at (336) 758-5591 and let them know you need to speak with the nurse on call for Student Health Service.

While it is closed for business during Thanksgiving Break, the University Counseling Center remains available 24/7 by phone for urgent mental health concerns by calling 336-758-5273. We will reopen at 8:30 am Monday November 27.
